JOHN WILL ANDERSON BOYS & GIRLS CLUB / COMMUNITY CENTER TOLLESTON PROJECT
The Challenge
We serve more than 1,000 youth per day in Northwest Indiana. Our Club members look to Boys & Girls Clubs of NWI to help them overcome obstacles; boost their self-esteem; and support their goal of realizing their full potential.
Despite many renovations and updates to the current John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club facility, there still remain several issues that keep us from providing our Club members with the superior Boys & Girls Club experience they need and deserve.
Continual flooding in the lower level of the current John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club facility limits the activities we are able to offer our Club members – and the appropriate space for learning. There are 5 classrooms located on the lower level.
The current John Will Anderson Boys & Girls Club facility is located on the busy street of 5th Avenue. Parents stop their vehicle in front of our building to pick up/drop off Club members. This interrupts traffic flow and forces motorist to quickly switch lanes to avoid accidents. We would like to offer parents and Club members a safer experience when arriving and departing.
THE BIG IDEA : Tolleston Middle School building and grounds will be reborn into a thriving center that serves our children and gives back to our community - Northwest Indiana.
